Man City 115 charges: Keith Wyness reveals truth about new 'leaks'

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted there will be limited information available as Man City fight their 115 charges case against the Premier League.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the independent commission hearing should be “transparent” as “justice needs to be seen to be done” in City’s case.

The hearing into Man City’s 115 charges for alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules began on Monday (16 September).

Photos from The Lawyer magazine emerged showing the English champions’ legal team arriving at London’s International Dispute Resolution Centre.

The case is the result of a four-year investigation into City’s conduct stretching back to 2008.

City strongly deny all charges and insist their case is supported by a “comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence”.

Man City case should be transparent, says Wyness – ‘justice needs to be seen to be done’

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The secret location was leaked, there were photographs of the lawyers going in.

“The lead lawyer, David Pannick, is reportedly on £5000 per hour.

“But we’re not going to be hearing much.

“They have been very clear about that. The chairman of the commission will only disclose things he wants to be disclosed, and there’ll be no further reporting.

“Of course in football, we’re all looking for leaks, and if there are no leaks then people will be making up leaks. We’re going to have to be very careful with the information coming out.

“There’s been a very big debate about whether this case should be public and the case for more transparency.

“I do believe it should be transparent because it would add to the penalty. If a club realised it would be dragged through the mud publicly, that might be another way to stop the behaviour we’re trying to fight against.

“It will bore people for the next two months. The detail and minutiae will be incredible and very boring, but there will be bombshell moments.

“I’ve been around these proceedings a couple of times, and they are very boring – it’s not great TV.

“However, I do believe that if we’re to enforce rules then justice needs to be seen to be done.

“There is some value in having some reporters there and giving us an update on proceedings each day.

“That would be helpful and important.”
