Chelsea make transfer enquiry for Getafe star Christantus Uche
The midfielder has been in exceptional form in the Spanish top flight.
Chelsea have made an enquiry for Christantus Uche after the midfielder’s eye-catching start to life at Getafe.
Uche completed a €500,000 (£417,000) move from third-tier Ceuta to Getafe back in June, with the Nigerian putting pen to paper on a four-year contract at the Estadio Coliseum.
The 21-year-old has hit the ground running at Getafe and already established himself as an integral member of Jose Bordalas’ squad, starting every match of the club’s La Liga campaign thus far.
According to Spanish publication Relevo, Uche’s meteoric rise has not gone unnoticed among Europe’s elite and Chelsea are among the teams gathering information on the highly rated youngster.
Chelsea are said to be ‘following Uche closely’ and the report suggests his powerful combination of strength and speed would ‘fit perfectly’ in the Premier League.
It’s claimed the Blues ‘did not want to miss the opportunity’ to learn about Uche’s situation given the player’s extraordinary emergence in recent months.
However, the Nigeria Under-23 international remains ‘happy’ and is ‘only thinking’ about Getafe for the time being, with the side looking to extend their unbeaten streak to four games at home to Valencia this weekend.
Uche’s current deal with Getafe runs through to the summer of 2028 and includes the option of a further year.
‘There was interest from many La Liga clubs, but to sign him for their reserve team,’ a source told Relevo earlier this year.
‘We knew what he could do if he found the right coach and that’s why we opted for Getafe.
‘Uche and Getafe manager Bordalas complement each other perfectly.’
It was another summer of upheaval at Chelsea, with the west London outfit signing 11 players in total across an unprecedented transfer window of comings and goings.
But at this early stage of the season, Enzo Maresca’s squad have displayed a spirit and togetherness that has been missing for a number of years at Stamford Bridge.
Despite suffering a 2-1 defeat at Liverpool on Sunday, the Blues could move into the Premier League’s top four with victory over Newcastle this weekend.
