Rangers and Celtic “should be worried” about Tony Bloom’s potential investment in the recruitment team at Hearts, according to Kris Boyd.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (18 September, 10:30am), the former Gers striker said that Bloom’s involvement at Tynecastle could have a seismic effect on the make-up of Scottish football.

Highlighting the progress made under Bloom’s tutelage at both Brighton and Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, Boyd argued that Hearts could now close the gap on the Old Firm sides.

He said: “This is an interesting one for Scottish football. Hearts won’t be on the same page as Brighton in terms of recruitment, but you look at Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium and their rise under Tony Bloom.

“They’ve caused problems for the big ones, so if I’m Rangers and Celtic, I’m worried about his appointment – if I’m Hearts, I’m biting your hands off.

“Rangers and Celtic should be worried. There is potential for Hearts to go and challenge Rangers and Celtic. This could be a big thing for Scottish football.”

Rangers to be worried by Hearts developments?

Although Hearts currently languish at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership table with a solitary point to their name, news of Bloom’s interest in the club will have Jam Tarts fans dreaming of the upper echelons.

That sole point came on the opening day against Rangers, who themselves have not had an ideal start to the new campaign but still reside in third place after five matches.

Hearts and the Gers have seen plenty of correspondence in recent months due to the latter’s pursuit of Lawrence Shankland over the summer, but the striker staying put at Tynecastle hasn’t had the desired effect.

However, with Bloom’s investment and recruitment expertise, Hearts could well climb into Premiership title contention and break the Old Firm’s stranglehold on Scottish football.

Jim Duffy has already called on the Gers to court Bloom’s interest if he does want to invest in Scottish football, and Boyd’s fears suggest that the Ibrox hierarchy would be wise to bring him on board.

In other Rangers news, Alan Brazil has shared what he was told about Dave King’s prospects of returning to the club as chairman.
