Immediate Clement sack update at Rangers as 'Noises coming out of Ibrox' emerge - report

Philippe Clement has reached a similar point to when both his immediate predecessors at Rangers were sacked but he is not currently expected to lose his job as well, according to The Rangers Review.

Joshua Barrie reported via the outlet’s website on 31 October, a day after the Belgian’s side lost 2-1 at Pittodrie to fall nine points behind both Aberdeen and Celtic, that “noises coming out of Ibrox” suggest that he will stay in his job “for now”.

Clement replaced Michael Beale a year ago after the Englishman lost three of his opening nine games, and Giovanni van Bronckhorst was let go a year before that after dropping nine behind Ange Postecolgou’s Hoops.

Defeat to the Dons was Clement’s third in the Scottish Premiership this term, and fifth in all competitions, and it is noted that neither of the men who appointed him, former CEO James Bisgrove or ex-chairman John Bennett are still in place, but it appears he won’t be sacked imminently.

Logic dictates that since the club are trying to snap out of the cycle of replacing the manager at the same stage every season they would give the current one some extra leeway.

He has been dealt a rough hand in some respects as he has had to clear up recruitment messes left by those before him while lowering the wage bill to combat yet more worrying financial figures.

Both of those issues would be exacerbated by firing the the 50-year-old now, although his own signings are hardly proving to be indisputable successes.

It isn’t extreme to suggest that he is now failing every big test that comes his way, aside from arguably the 2-0 win away at Malmo in the Europa League opener on 26 September.

Rangers sacked Michael Beale a year ago after three defeats in the first nine games.

Aside from that the season opener at Hearts saw him drop points immediately in a goalless draw (3 August), the Champions League went begging after a controversial 2-0 loss to Dynamo Kyiv (13 August), the first Old Firm derby of the season ended in a 3-0 embarrassment on 1 September to make it five meetings with Celtic without a win for him.

Handed a golden opportunity to close the gap on both Brendan Rodgers and Jimmy Thelin after the top two drew Rangers could only muster a dismal 1-0 loss at Kilmarnock on 20 October, before losing again at Pittodrie.

At virtually any other time that run would be grounds for a sacking at Ibrox, and it is only if the board expected this season to go this way and decided it as the cost of breaking the cycle, or if the finances are so bad that they just can’t afford another managerial change, that he stays.

In other Rangers news, a key Clement transfer failure could now leave the club at the first opportunity.
