Immediate Friedkin plan for Dyche's Everton future emerges as 3 replacements linked - report

Dan Friedkin will give preference to keeping Sean Dyche as Everton manager if his takeover is ratified in the coming weeks, according to GiveMeSport.

The outlet reported via their website on 23 September that the American doesn’t plan to immediately sack the former Burnley boss but has refused to rule out making a change, after his agreement to buy the club from Farhad Moshiri was announced.

David Moyes wants the job and both Gareth Southgate and Graham Potter have been discussed at the club as potential replacements.

But Friedkin will “assess his options” rather than get rid of Dyche straight away, with there said to be a feeling at Goodison that sticking with him is best for now as they come into some more winnable games, while he has not been blamed for losing two-goal leads against Bournemouth and Aston Villa.

David Moyes wants Everton return after West Ham exit

Unless there is an outstanding candidate that is willing and available to come in at Everton immediately it is logical that Dyche will get a stay of execution at least.

Moshiri won’t want to deal with the complications of sacking another boss on the way out and if Friedkin did have an idea of what he was going to do once he assumes control it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is feeling more cautious after his decision to give Daniele De Rossi a three-year deal at Roma was abandoned after four games [Daily Mail, 18 September].

If Dyche can go on a run of form like he has in the past then it might mean everyone involved is content to let him see out of his contract and move on in the summer, especially since Everton are thought to have to pay him for an extra year if they get rid of him before then [The Esk, 15 September].

England manager Gareth Southgate
Gareth Southgate is a potential candidate as Everton manager.

Bringing back Moyes doesn’t look like the sort of forward-thinking statement Friedkin would want to make to kick off the new era, but Potter and Southgate could be possibilities after the American is given Premier League approval in the next two to three months [Ben Jacobs, 23 September].

Neither would have seemed likely to want to take on the turmoil at Goodison while Moshiri remained but with Friedkin set to address many of the financial concerns [Alan Myers, 23 September] they might have a different view.

One thing is certain though, which is that Dyche must improve results if he wants to stay in a job under any owner, and he can count himself lucky not to be held responsible for either of the 3-2 losses.

He rightly has credit to his name for two successful relegation escapes and a very respectable finish last season despite two points deductions, but the longer he goes without looking like he can avoid the drop a third time the closer his current or future boss will be to making a move.

In other Everton news, a struggling American firm could buy shares in the club as part of a deal done with Friedkin.
