Insider: Tottenham are regularly scouting Southampton player, new mission revealed

Southampton star is attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs after Tottenham and Man United scouts were sent to watch his performance v Liverpool.

This is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that clubs are planning to make a move if Southampton are relegated.

Brown previously told Football Insider that the 18-year-old is being watched by “all of the big clubs” in England after breaking into Russell Martin’s starting XI.

Dibling shone once again despite his side’s eventual 3-2 defeat to Liverpool at St Mary’s, and is said to have left the watching eyes impressed with his display.

Tottenham and Man United are said to be among the interested parties keeping a close eye on his development ahead of a potential move next summer.

He has now featured in all 12 of the Saints’ Premier League games so far, starting seven and coming off the bench in the other five, as he continues to establish himself as a key player.

The winger’s current contract is set to expire in 2026, although the club have the option to trigger an extension for a further year, putting them in a strong negotiating position.

Southampton are reluctant to see an academy graduate leave the club so shortly after breaking into the first-team and will look to keep him at St Mary’s.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in player recruitment at the top level, having also worked for the likes of Tottenham, Aston Villa and West Ham, insisted that relegation could force the club to cash in on their young star.

“He’s attracting a lot of interest,” he told Football Insider.

“Nearly every club in the Premier League have been keeping an eye on his performances this season because he’s a very talented young player.

“They’re assessing just how good they think he is, and many of them have had scouts watching him.

“After that game against Liverpool, I’m told they like what they see.

“If Southampton go down, chances are they’ll have to sell some players.

“The way the financial rules are at the moment, relegation can be very costly. I think we saw that with Leeds and Leicester last year.

“With Dibling attracting interest, he may well be one they look to cash in on if a good offer arrives.

“Don’t get me wrong, they’ll be keen to keep him at the club, he’s a product of their academy and a very good one at that.

“But with interest building, relegation from the Premier League might force them to sell.”
