Jason Cundy criticised Tottenham supporters in a sensational rant after the 1-1 draw with Rangers on Thursday.
The Lilywhites have failed to win their last five matches since the 4-0 victory over Manchester City (23 November) and former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara called for Postecoglou to be sacked after the 4-3 defeat to Chelsea (8 December).
Ange Postecoglou’s side laboured to a lacklustre draw at Ibrox (12 December) as pressure continued to mount on the Australian.
After the contest, former Chelsea defender Cundy responded to a Spurs fan who had called in to talkSPORT [12 December, 22:35], saying: “You lot are part of the problem.
“I’ll tell you why, because you put up with it, you give it the big un when you win a couple of games.
“You think you’re gonna go win the Champions League, you think you’re gonna win the FA Cup.”
Tottenham should give Postecoglou time
Ange Postecoglou is under heavy pressure right now in North London after a poor run of results but Cundy is wrong.
He should be given time to turn the situation around at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Australian is known for an exciting, attacking brand of football but he has not been given the tools to assemble a squad that matches the club’s ambitions.
In the summer transfer window, Spurs spent £122 million with £65m going on Dominic Solanke, which was a great addition but the rest of the signings were young talents who have not had the desired impact yet.
In fact, a report from The Athletic [18 November] highlighted the fact that the owners have put just £194m into the Lilywhites since their takeover in 2001, with £94m being the initial fee to buy the club.
Postecoglou needs to be backed by the board in the transfer window and by supporters in the stands, he can still redeem the situation if given the chance.
