Jeff Stelling is concerned for Sean Dyche’s job after Dan Friedkin agreed a deal to purchase Farhad Moshiri’s controlling stake at Everton.
The Toffees announced [23 September] that Blue Heaven Holdings and The Friedkin Group have come to an agreement, subject to approval from the Premier League, The FA and the Financial Conduct Authority.
While the news has been greeted positively by fans at Goodison Park, Stelling is concerned by the “phenomenal turnover” of managers at Friedkin’s current-owned club, AS Roma.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Tuesday (24 September, 6:23am), Stelling said: “When you look at Roma’s track record, there’s been a phenomenal turnover. They’ve just gotten rid of De Rossi despite giving him an extension until 2027.
“Four games into a new season, having only lost once, they’ve decided to get rid of him. So, I worry for Dyche. Although this takeover probably won’t become official until around Christmas, how much influence will the Friedkin Group have now?
“Will everyone just answer their back and call? That’s why I worry because I think the better times on the pitch are just around the corner.”
Sean Dyche to face Everton sack after Dan Friedkin takeover update?
One of the main issues about a new takeover is new owners are likely to implement their ideas, which could eventually see Dyche removed from his post at Goodison Park.
It has already been suggested Friedkin will look to find a new manager once he purchases Moshiri’s controlling stake in the Merseyside club [Il Messaggero], so his time could be running out.
With the Toffees currently sitting in nineteenth place in the Premier League, taking just one point from their opening five matches, it is difficult to argue against sacking the manager.
Of course, Dyche has worked wonders on Merseyside since his appointment, but the manner of the defeats this season has been soul-destroying.
Given De Rossi’s exit from AS Roma recently, pressure looks to be building on Dyche to turn things around quickly, but his departure could already be set in stone if Friedkin gets his way.
