Johnson ‘fantastic’ as BBC pundit wowed by what Tottenham star did in Wales win v Iceland

BBC Radio Wales pundit Helen Ward was full of praise for Tottenham star Brennan Johnson after his goal against Iceland on 19 November.

The Spurs and Wales forward scored his side’s third goal of the night as they won 4-1 to top their group in the Nations League and gain promotion to Group A.

The 23-year-old was able to get on the end of Liam Cullen’s pass to calmly put the ball into the bottom corner and score his second goal of this Nations League campaign.

Commentating on the game for BBC Radio Wales Sport, former Welsh international Ward said: “That’s a fantastic finish from Brennan Johnson.

“It’s exactly the sort of finish he’s needed for Wales I think.

“People were still questioning him, he’d scored a couple before now in this campaign but that sort of one v one, that clinical, it’s what we’ve seen him do for Spurs so often this season and it was a really, really well-taken goal.”

Johnson replicating Tottenham form on the international stage

The forward has proved his quality in a Tottenham shirt having carried on his impressive form this season with four Premier League goals under his belt so far.

However, before this Nations League campaign, he only had three goals to his name on the international stage.

But after a goal in his side’s first leg against Iceland which they drew 2-2 on 11 October, he has now kicked on and been able to provide a goal that helps sees his side gain promotion in the Nations League.

With his success at club level, there has been some pressure on the youngster to deliver for his country too and this goal has certainly shown he has the ability to do so.

With Wales now looking ahead to face a higher level of opposition going forward, Johnson will be hoping he can be ready to play his part against the big boys.
