Journalist: Everton cashflow should now be strongest it has been for some time

Joe Thomas believes Everton should have one of their “strongest” cashflow situations in recent times this summer.

The Toffees are reportedly in serious debt, mainly due to the building of Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium, while Sean Dyche’s team were handed multiple punishments for PSR breaches.

Despite this, and two more points deductions being mooted ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, it is still believed that the club’s cashflow situation will be positive heading into the summer transfer window.

Writing for the Liverpool Echo on Saturday (8 June), Thomas wrote: “With season ticket money submitted, a league merit payment on the way, the opening of the transfer window imminent and the first tranche of next season’s TV money on the horizon, the club’s cashflow situation should be the strongest it has been for some time.”

This news will come as much-needed positivity amongst Evertonians right now, with the sales of Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana being mooted due to the current situation at Goodison Park.

Dyche’s side were docked a total of eight points throughout the 2023/24 campaign, having breached PSR laws on two separate occasions, though still managed to survive comfortably in the end.

With several of the players finishing their loan deals with the Toffees, Everton will need to be active in the transfer market this summer, which looks to be a difficult task so far.

However, as Thomas suggests, ticket money, league merit payment and TV money will make an incredible difference for the Merseyside club, and possible transfers will, of course, add to the pot.

It is understood that Onana could be sold for quite a hefty fee this summer, though the club will be keen to keep Branthwaite after such a sensation season in defence.

The likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ben Godfrey have been linked with summer exits, which should add a decent fee to the transfer budget, which could be important for Dyche’s team next season.

In other Everton news, an investment claim has emerged as a takeover timeline is mooted.
