Journalist names four more Rangers players Philippe Clement is willing to sell this summer

Rangers boss Philippe Clement is willing to sell four players this summer in order to finance a rebuild for the upcoming season, according to Roger Hannah.

The Scottish Sun journalist said on 19 July that James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Todd Cantwell and Cyriel Dessers are those the Belgian is willing to part ways with.

Thus far the club have made six permanent signings this summer, but most of them are unlikely to strengthen the first team.

The likes of Ryan Jack, Borna Barisic, Kemar Roofe and John Lundstram have already left the club.

Hannah told Clyde One Superscoreboard at 7:32: “Clement’s just decided, right, I’m going to do it my way. I’m not gonna have any of these guys who have been here for a while.

“When he realises what the financial situation is, he’s willing to let go of Tavernier, Goldson, Cantwell, Dessers, and get some money in so that he can really build a team in his image.”

The aforementioned players have been part of the Gers squad for a while and have not been able to help the club achieve their goals consistently.

Selling them, with Tavernier likely to be the next one, could provide Clement with the funds to rebuild the team in his image.

The Belgian’s decision to let go of these players is likely driven by his desire to take full responsibility for the team’s performance.

By bringing in his own players, he can be judged on the success of his own choices rather than on the performance of a squad he inherited.

Lastly, the fact that most of the six permanent signings made this summer are unlikely to strengthen the first team suggests that Clement is planning a more significant overhaul of the squad.

Selling these four players would provide him with the financial resources to pursue his preferred targets and build a team capable of challenging for titles.
