Journalist shares if Rangers can use Hampden in August as Ibrox saga emerges

Rangers will not be able to play at Hampden Park as an alternative to Ibrox at the start of next season, Andy Newport has revealed.

The Daily Record journalist posted on X (20 June) to say that Hampden is “out of commission” until September, following news that redevelopments to Ibrox’s Copland Stand would mean the Gers potentially have to relocate in August [Chris Jack].

Newport’s post was in response to a question over whether Philippe Clement’s side will move their home fixtures to Hampden or Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium for the time being.

A series of concerts being held at Hampden this summer will necessitate an improvement of the playing surface and the Gers will have to explore other options if they’re to find a temporary new home.

Ibrox debacle an needless distraction for Clement and Rangers

Philippe Clement already has enough on his plate this summer, spearheading a massive squad overhaul with three new signings already through the door and others expected to follow in the coming weeks.

The Belgian’s policy so far has been to sign players at a young age – Jefte, Clinton Nsiala and returning loanee Oscar Cortes are all 20-years-old – thus delaying their Ibrox initiations could be a potential blow [Daily Record].

Ibrox provides a unique atmosphere which may help to lift the weight of a heavy light blue jersey for those new signings, and as Clement looks to get his new faces accustomed to the club‘s environment, having to up sticks and potentially play games in an entirely different city will not help [The Scotsman].

Hampden Park, the national football stadium for Scotland and located in Glasgow, would have been a perfect temporary home given its size and location.

Murrayfield would likely come with a rental fee and the fact it is in Edinburgh means it would not be the most ideal scenario for Rangers.

If Clement’s new signings are to acclimatise themselves quickly, he’ll be hoping that a smooth resolution can be found as soon as possible.

In other Rangers news, the club are set to seal a brand new signing after talks with Clement and Koppen.
