Callum Crowe has claimed that Mohamed Diomande “is lucky to be in the team” at Rangers with his recent performances at Ibrox.
With how Rangers have fared so far this season, criticism is inevitable and Diomande is the latest to receive it.
The midfielder has featured regularly under Philippe Clement but Crowe, in the print edition of the Scottish Daily Mail (8 November, pg 85), claims that he is “lucky” to do so.
He said: “When he scored two goals in his first five matches, the expectation was that Diomande would be the player around whom Clement would build the midfield around at Rangers.
“Alas, the early promise shown during those first few weeks at Ibrox has fizzled out.
“On current form, Diomande is lucky to be in the team.”
Mohamed Diomande form is one of several issues at Rangers
Not much is going how you’d expect it to at Ibrox, with the club described as a “basketcase” by Gary Keown. It’s hard to argue against that.
Rangers find themselves nine points behind the league-leading pack of Aberdeen and Celtic, after just 10 games. Defeats to both sides have significantly hampered the Gers’ chances of achieving title success for the first time since Steven Gerrard’s departure in 2021.
Several players have been underperforming for Rangers and Diomande has been one of them. Despite having three goal contributions in eight league appearances, the Ivorian has failed to showcase the form or ability that he did in his early days at Ibrox.
Rangers need to improve significantly. On and off the pitch. Celtic’s Champions League victory against RB Leipzig showcased the gulf in quality between the two Scottish clubs at the current moment although it also served as a benefit for Clement’s side as a future incentive.
Clement’s position at Ibrox remains under threat and failure to improve in the coming weeks could spell the end of his tenure.
In other Rangers news, Ally McCoist was delighted by John Souttar’s “exceptional” work late as the Gers held out for a creditable draw away to Olympiacos.
