Dan Bardell believes Everton panicked and signed Armando Broja despite not being a guaranteed starter this season.
The Albania international completed a loan move to Goodison Park from Chelsea on Deadline Day and was unveiled by the club on 5 September [Everton FC].
This means Sean Dyche has four senior striker options available to him until January at least with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Beto and Yousef Chermiti already at the club.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has been left unsure by the move given the 22-year-old’s lack of form in recent seasons.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Bardell said: “It felt like a bit of a panic signing because it came out of nowhere on Deadline Day.
“Broja was obviously close to joining Ipswich and then suddenly Everton came in. They’ve needed a striker for a while now but he’s had his problems over the years.
“He doesn’t come in and guarantee anything so it’s a strange move. There is a good player there who needs a run of games but I’m not sure he’ll get that at Everton when everyone is fit.
“Unfortunately, the nature of Deadline Day makes that transfer look panicky in my opinion.“
Everton criticised for Armando Broja signing
The Toffees weren’t in desperate need of a striker during the window unless Calvert-Lewin was to make a move away from Goodison.
What Dyche’s side needed was goals and the Albanian has shown, mainly in his loan spell with Southampton, that he does know where the back of the net is.
On an initial loan, the move is relatively risk-free which suits the club given the financial situation they find themselves in with a deal with John Textor facing a sticking point.
There will be hope that once he recovers properly from his injury the Chelsea man can score goals and fire the Toffees to Premier League safety.
