'Joy to watch': Heung-min Son says there's two players who have really impressed him in Tottenham pre-season
Serious talents at Spurs currently... ????
Tottenham Hotspur’s pre-season could not have gotten off to a better start when it comes to the action on the pitch.
Ange Postecoglou‘s side returned to his former home last week in the first stop of their pre-season tour which took them to Japan.
Having arrived in Tokyo with two wins from two in their opening friendlies, Spurs were able to seal their third win of the summer over Vissel Kobe.
Next up for Tottenham is two friendlies in Seoul, South Korea, the home of Heung-min Son who got off the mark in front of goal for the first time on Saturday.
But there are two teammates of his who the South Korean captain has admitted have really impressed him so far this summer.
Heung-min Son left so impressed by Tottenham duo
Son is coming into the summer on the back of a seriously impressive 2023/24 campaign where he netted 17 times in the Premier League alone.
However, the South Korean did have his struggles towards the backend of the campaign with fatigue potentially playing a significant role.
This summer has not exactly seen the frontline line beefed up with Timo Werner retained for the season and Yang Min-hyeok arriving in January.
But there are two other new arrivals who have seriously impressed the Spurs captain so far in pre-season.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Son admitted he had been blown away by what he has seen so far from Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall.
“Yeah, they’re working really hard every, every single day they want to show who they are. I think it’s just joy to watch and both of them are working really hard — they just want to listen and just want to learn,” Son said.
“I think that’s very important at this age because you hope those guys both have amazing bright future. So, I’m always trying to help the two of them because they just came here, to a new club and they probably need a little bit of help from me. And, yeah, it’s just a joy to watch. Every single day they impress me with their attitude.”
“They are young but they can make a huge, huge impact for the team I think that is very important now. These days, I think with this generation, I think age is not important. I think they should take a big responsibility and that is what they do every single day. So, if they do that in the game, I think I have no doubt that they will be very, very good. So, let’s see what happens this season. I hope they will both be amazing players.”
What Archie Gray said about Heung-min Son helping him
Despite his form perhaps being at its peak, Son recently turned 32-years-old this summer making him one of the real senior figures at the club.
His responsibility at Spurs was increased massively last season as he was handed the captain’s armband following Hugo Lloris’ – looming – and Harry Kane’s exits from the club.
And it is a responsibility that the forward has seemingly taken in his stride with Archie Gray waxing lyrical about Son’s role in helping him settle into life at Spurs.
“On the pitch and off the pitch, he’s been helping me, it’s just little things. He is really good friends with Joe Rodon and last year when Joe was at Leeds I was probably the closest with Joe when he joined and I think when I came here Joe told Sonny to look after me a little bit,” Gray told football.london.
“He’s making me feel really welcome and just with little things like helping me speak to everyone and helping me into the group.”
