Keith Jackson questions Clement over what he said about Rangers summer signing

Keith Jackson has questioned Philippe Clement’s “not first-team ready” comment about Hamza Igamane at the start of the season after his 25-minute Rangers cameo v Dundee United.

Rangers managed to put an end to their poor run of form and finally came away with three points after beating Dundee United 1-0 on 15 September.

This win took the Gers up to third in the Scottish Premiership and the club are are once again five points behind league leaders Celtic.

Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (15 September), Jackson hailed the performance of summer signing Igamane after he made a brief cameo at the end of the game.

“You can see flashes of just sheer instinct and the natural ability he’s got,” Jackson said.

“To be fair, I don’t know if Clement handled it in the cleverest of ways when he said right at the start [of the season] that he’s nowhere near first-team ready.”

Hamza Igamane could be the right man for Rangers

The Igamane transfer saga hung over Gers fans’ heads for an extended period throughout the summer.

The striker arrived at Ibrox for a seven-figure fee [Sebastien Denis, 5 July] and has only made two short cameo appearances since joining.

Despite the hefty amount of capital that Clement chose to invest in the striker, it feels as if it’s a move that could pay off for the Gers.

When on the pitch, the Morocco international offered something that Cyriel Dessers didn’t.

Rangers
Cyriel Dessers scored 22 Scottish Premiership goals last season

Dessers is the club’s only number nine who’s fit to lead the Gers’ attack, which is why he’s being chosen each week.

The Nigeria international has had a fair few chances this term and although some have gone in, the 29-year-old has definitely missed more than he should have done.

It’s still early days of course but Igamane could help take some of the weight off of Dessers’ shoulders and perhaps provide Clement with another option up top until the likes of Danilo return to full fitness.

In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton was amazed by what a Gers player was called live on Sky Sports.
