Stevie Clifford has told Philippe Clement that he has to start Hamza Igamane after his promising performance for Rangers against Dundee United.
The Moroccan forward was a second-half substitute as the Light Blues ran out 1-0 winners at Tannadice on Sunday (15 September) thanks to Tom Lawrence’s excellent chipped effort early in the first half.
Although Igamane didn’t manage to get on the scoresheet himself, he did impress with a few bright moments and Four Lads Had A Dream host Clifford believes he deserves a start when he builds his fitness.
Writing on X on Sunday (15 September) he said: “Soon as Hamza Igamane is properly match-fit, start him.
“Very promising.”
What has happened to Hamza Igamane at Ibrox after Rangers transfer?
Supporters have rightly been frustrated by just how long it has taken Igamane to get up to speed at Rangers following his summer transfer, but his last couple of cameos have shown that there is a player in there.
Leading the line for either Old Firm side is a tough task for any player, let alone a 21-year-old. It took Cyriel Dessers the best part of a full season before he began to look like a genuine Light Blues number nine.
However, the initial signs are promising as Clifford suggests. If he can keep getting fitter and keep impressing off of the bench, there is absolutely no reason he couldn’t become a fixture of Clement’s starting XI week in and week out.
Whether that is at the expense of Dessers remains to be seen. The Gers boss has been reluctant to play two strikers during his time in Glasgow, but that has partly been because of the lack of forward options available to him.
Perhaps the combination of Igamane and Dessers may be too exciting for him to resist, especially with Danilo stuck on the treatment table.
In other Rangers news, John Bennett could have taken the Ianis Hagi decision out of Clement’s hands this summer
