Keith Wyness bombshell: Everton 'at risk' of new points deduction

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Everton remain “at risk” of breaching Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Toffees will face punishment if they “splurge” on transfers this season without establishing new revenues – including a potential stadium naming rights deal.

The deadline for Everton to submit their accounts for the 2023-24 campaign elapsed on Sunday (30 June).

As per PSR, top-flight clubs must not lose more than £105million across three years – with points deductions among the potential punishments for breaching that figure.

Everton were docked nine points in total during the 2023-24 season for breaching the rules in the previous two campaigns.

Everton ‘right on the borderline’ of PSR yet again, says Wyness

Wyness claimed the Merseysiders are “right on the borderline” of PSR again for last season.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I’m not entirely convinced that Everton are completely in the PSR safe area, I think we’re right on the borderline.

“I want more clarity before I ease off.

“Friedkin, in theory, can loan the club more money and more signings and purchases can be made.

“But this next season won’t see any major developments unless a stadium naming rights deal is struck and payment is made, in part, this year.

“We’d still be at risk of breaching PSR for the 2024-25 campaign if we go out and splurge without new revenues.

“That’s the situation. I hope we are close to being compliant with the rules.”
