Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has backed Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou to “definitely see through this season” and avoid the sack despite recent criticism.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed Spurs fans want to “persevere” with the 59-year-old’s brand of attacking football.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (23 December) that Postecoglou is not in immediate sack danger at Tottenham after the 6-3 home defeat against Liverpool.
The loss left Spurs sitting 11th in the table after 17 Premier League games – but they have reached the League Cup semi-final and have a good chance of Europa League progression.
Postecoglou has faced huge criticism in the media – with Jamie Carragher insisting “nobody has ever won anything playing like that” following the heavy Liverpool defeat.
He has been in the job since last summer (2023) and achieved a fifth-place finish in his first season in England.
Postecoglou will ‘definitely’ get the season at Tottenham, says Wyness
Wyness backed Postecoglou to keep his job despite “disquiet” – but admitted fans will have “issues” with conceding six goals at home.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think he’s fine.
“There’s disquiet, and there will be issues with letting in six goals at home. But he’s in a semi-final.
“He said he’d win something for Tottenham this year, and if he did it would be amazing.
“I think he’s okay for now. The fans are still behind him, but they’d like to see a bit more change to accommodate the squad they’ve got right now.
“They’d like to see him persevere with the attacking football. They conceded six against Liverpool, but they had three really good goals on Sunday.
“I think he’ll definitely see through this season.”
