Dan Friedkin could still make a U-turn in his takeover of Everton despite new updates at Goodison Park, according to Kieran Maguire.
The football finance expert reported via Sky Sports on Friday (19 July) that the Friedkin Group cannot be ruled out of the running to succeed Farhad Moshiri, despite the collapse of their takeover bid.
The Toffees have confirmed talks had ended with the prospective owners and Everton insider Bryan King told Goodison News on 7 July that the deal hit a “stumbling block” due to money owed to 777 Partners.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Maguire said: “Also I think we need to say never say never when it comes to the Friedkin Group because there was a fairly similar position when it came to when they acquired Roma.
“They initially became involved in negotiations, then they decided to pull out and then at a later stage they decided to come back.
“This is part of business, it’s all part of the chess that takes place between the seller and the buyer trying to persuade each other to pay more and less so I wouldn’t rule the Friedkin group out but now that there are other parties who could potentially step in and take a look at the books in more detail.”
Will Everton be taken over by the Friedkin Group after recent updates?
Everton supporters must be sick and tired of this takeover saga at Goodison Park as it has felt like matters off of the pitch have been overshadowing updates on it for the last couple of seasons.
Farhad Moshiri has been trying to get rid of his stake in the Blues for years now, but whenever a deal seems to be getting close, something crops up to put the entire process right back to square one immediately.
Luckily, the funding that the Friedkin Group has provided appears to be enough to help the Blues tide themselves over this summer, but that money is finite and further investment is needed sooner rather than later.
Hopefully, Maguire is right and the Roma owners will re-enter talks with Moshiri in the future. However, unless the current Everton owner changes his stance on this potential takeover, it is hard to see how a deal will be completed.
