Bryan King claims clubs around Europe would pay £50million for Tottenham star Son Heung-min.
The ex-Spurs scout thinks the North London club will be able to fetch a reasonable fee for Son as long as he is under contract.
As reported by the Telegraph (4 November), Tottenham plan to trigger a one-year option in Son’s contract.
And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks this is a decision which makes sense.
“As long as he is under contract, they can still get money for him,” King said.
“If Harry Kane went for £100million with one year left, I’m sure there would be a lot of clubs in Europe who’d pay at least £50million for Son.
“I think it is a good move which will appease him and the supporters while giving him peace of mind.”
Tottenham to sell Son Heung-min for £50million?
A lot of people might have been surprised to see Spurs sell Kane for a club-record fee considering he had just one year left on his deal. However, it just goes to show the brilliance of Daniel Levy’s negotiation skills.
Should Spurs not trigger the one-year option in Son’s contract, he could leave the club for free at the end of the season. However, if they take it up, Spurs will either get another season out of Son or be in a position where they could sell him next summer.
Many fans would expect the club to keep hold of their talisman, with speculation over a longer contract agreement emerging.
However, it can’t be ruled out that a club in Europe, or perhaps even Saudi Arabia, could step forward and offer Tottenham £50million for the South Korea international, which would leave Ange Postecoglou with a decision to make, but only if the one-year option is triggered.
Therefore, it is imperative Spurs get that done, that way they can at least control Son’s future, and have the choice of whether or not to sell the club captain should an offer come in.
