King praises Tottenham transfer decision as multi-million exit is confirmed

Bryan King believes Tottenham made the right decision to allow Joe Rodon to join Leeds United.

The ex-Spurs scout claims the Welshman had no future in North London despite an impressive spell on loan at Elland Road last season.

As reported by BBC Sport (2 July), Tottenham signed Archie Gray from Leeds United for around £30million, with Rodon heading in the opposite direction in a deal worth £10million.

And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – feels this was the right move for the defender.

“Getting rid of Rodon as part of the Gray deal was a good bit of business,” King said.

“Rodon didn’t have a future with Tottenham, and it looks as if he will have a chance to rebuild his career properly with Leeds.

“If he was to have stayed in North London he would’ve either been sent out on loan or wouldn’t have been playing. I think he likes being up there too, and he seems to have proven his worth in the Championship.”

This is one of those transfers which just made sense.

It felt inevitable that Rodon would leave Spurs, and after his time on loan with the club, a return to Leeds feels right.

In addition, Spurs have managed to use that as leverage to sign a talented young midfielder.

Rodon will have an opportunity to play regularly at Elland Road while Gray can kick on with Spurs.

As a result, everybody is happy and all clubs will feel as if they came out of negotiations well-off.
