King predicts star replacement for Tottenham v Brighton as Ange drops injury update today

Bryan King expects Ben Davies to start should Destiny Udogie miss out when Tottenham face Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Sunday (6 October).

The ex-Spurs scout believes the Welshman is likelier to start than Djed Spence should Udogie not recover in time.

While discussing Udogie’s availability at his pre-match press conference (via Football London, 4 October), Postecoglou said, “Destiny we think will be okay, training today and tomorrow.”

However, should he not come through training in the right shape, King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has backed Davies’ experience to give him the edge over Spence.

“Udogie missing out would be a problem,” King said.

“Leaving him behind in London so that he could focus on his recovery was definitely the sensible choice.

“This is a starting player we are talking about, important to the team. However, he has players that he can bring in for him.

“They have Spence, we’ve seen van de Ven play left-back. However, personally, I think he would start with Davies, you can’t beat experience. I think he is your best choice if Udogie doesn’t play.”

Postecoglou’s update on Udogie is certainly a positive one overall. The indication that he expects him to feature against Brighton suggests the injury isn’t a long-term one, which is important, considering the praise the Italian has received after recent performances.

Therefore, even if he doesn’t recover in time to face the Seagulls, he will likely be available after the international break.

There is still a very good chance he plays on Sunday. However, Postecoglou might choose not to start him to avoid risking any further damage. The left-back will be needed in the coming weeks, especially after a recent decision Postecoglou made.

As a result, Davies could be the man he chooses to call on.
