Bryan King has insisted that Ange Postecoglou has to start Dominic Solanke for Tottenham against Leicester City on Monday 19 August.
The new club-record signing [Duncan Castles] is yet to pull on the white shirt but will be involved in the Premier League opener at the King Power Stadium.
The ex-Spurs scout admitted that Brentford talisman Ivan Toney would have been a better signing, but if Solanke can hit anywhere near last season’s total, he will help the team massively.
“He has got to,” he exclusively told Tottenham News.
“He’s been at Bournemouth, he’s been pre-season training, I don’t think there is any question around injury.
“The thing that surprised me was that they went for this boy, I always thought Toney would have suited them better, he seems more of a Tottenham player than Solanke, and it’s going to be a test for the team.
“He had a good season, scored 18 goals and Tottenham are going to create more chances than Bournemouth in games, so if he can do the same kind of job that he did last year, then it’s going to have a big effect on them.”
Dominic Solanke to start for Tottenham v Leicester City
Ange Postecoglou will have bene desperate to sign a new striker this summer with last season showing that his team is screaming out for a number nine.
Despite decent efforts from Heung-Min Son, he is better out wide and Richarlison simply isn’t consistent enough for that role and is now rejecting an exit.
Solanke has played that number nine role his entire life, and now he will finally get the chance to prove his worth on the biggest stage.
