Bryan King has suggested Jarrad Branthwaite might turn down a brand-new contract proposal from Everton.
The ex-Goodison scout believes offering the centre-back a new deal at Goodison Park is a “no-brainer.”
As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (22 July), the club are preparing a new contract proposal for Branthwaite, which is to be sent this summer.
The Toffees have turned down two transfer offers from Manchester United, who Romano said have no intention of paying £75-£80million for the 22-year-old.
And King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – is unsurprised that the Red Devils don’t want to make a big-money bid.
“United are going to be looking at his contract situation at Goodison Park and thinking is he really worth what Everton think he is? They probably think they could sign him on the cheap,” King said.
“Therefore, if Everton think Branthwaite is worth £70million-plus, offering him a new contract is a no-brainer. Rip the old one up and pay him what they think he is worth.
“They’ve got their money from loans, so ensure you have key players locked down. Then if he decides to turn it down and leave the football club, which he very well might do, there is nothing they can do.”
Everton to offer Jarrad Branthwaite a new contract at Goodison Park
This will be a very big decision for Branthwaite at this stage of his career.
He is already under contract with Everton for another three years. Therefore, signing a new deal might mean he ends up spending the best years of his career with the club.
As a result, if he is keen on making a move away from Goodison Park, he might be wise to turn the offer down.
This would make it clear to Everton that he has no intention of sticking around, which would make them more likely to let him go either this summer or next.
However, this new contract proposal could contain some sort of release clause which would leave Branthwaite more inclined to put pen to paper.
It remains to be seen exactly what is on offer from Everton, and Branthwaite will need to consider his next move very carefully.
The next few weeks therefore look set to be very interesting at Goodison Park.
