Kevin Nolan has backed Sean Dyche to provide Kalvin Phillips with the “support he needs” amid links with a move to Everton.

The Toffees are prepared to offer the 28-year-old midfielder an escape route from Manchester City, according to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, but would likely only be able to afford a loan move this summer.

Phillips spent the second half of the 2023/24 campaign on loan with West Ham United, a move that did not work out as many hoped, making just 10 appearances under David Moyes.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Wednesday (24 July, 7:23am), Nolan said: “Look, Sean Dyche is someone who is going to give him the support he needs. He’s got a really good backroom staff.

“Them being around him will help and he’ll be at home, which will be a major thing.”

Could Kalvin Phillips rediscover his form at Everton?

Phillips will be searching desperately for a move away from the Etihad Stadium, fearing another season on the bench under Pep Guardiola.

Fans know exactly what the defensive midfielder is capable of, having proved it during 234 appearances for Leeds United before earning his move to the current Premier League champions.

Since making the switch from Elland Road in 2022, Phillips has made just 31 appearances for Man City, being pushed out of the squad by Guardiola.

Given that Nolan was a part of Moyes’ coaching staff last season, working closely with the midfielder during his loan spell at the London Stadium, there are few people who can give a better judgement than him.

Everton target Kalvin Phillips has been a regular bench-warmer for Manchester City.

Evertonians will, obviously, be wary of a loan deal this summer, and rightly so, but Phillips will be eager to prove a lot of fans wrong after a failed six months in London.

But following Amadou Onana’s move to Aston Villa, Dyche could certainly do with another figure in the middle of the park.

In other Everton news, Amadou Onana’s sale could fund a bid for Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto.
