King speculates surprise Tottenham return for 'Excellent' out of contract ace

Bryan King has questioned whether Dele Alli might be welcomed back at Tottenham.

The ex-Spurs scout believes the 28-year-old was “excellent” during his time in North London.

Alli is currently a free agent and has continued his rehabilitation from injury at Finch Farm since his deal with Everton expired in June. According to Alan Myers via X (3 November), Alli is close to featuring for Everton’s Under-21s as he looks to build match fitness.

And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes any matches at that level will be key for the Englishman.

“He was a surprise package when he joined Tottenham,” King said.

“However, he was excellent. He played for England, and he was a major factor for Spurs at that time. However, then he fell by the wayside.

“This game, when he plays for the Under-21s, will be very important, his footballing future could rest on it.

“Will it be at Everton, will he be welcomed back to Tottenham, or will he end up somewhere else?”

It does seem far-fetched that Alli would make a return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, weirder things have happened in football.

Should he get himself back up to speed physically, and prove he is still capable of playing at a high level, who knows what could happen?

At his best, there is no doubt that Alli could be an asset for Postecoglou, especially with some of Spurs’ other midfielders underperforming.

And picking up a squad player on a free transfer could appeal to Daniel Levy, despite the money Tottenham continue to generate.

However, there is a long way to go before an Alli return to Spurs can even be slightly considered, and it appears as though Postecoglou has other transfer priorities (Graeme Bailey via The Spurs News, 8 November).
