Tottenham open Jonathan Tah talks as new transfer now on cards

Tottenham are one of three Premier League clubs to have contacted intermediaries over the signing of Jonathan Tah, according to TBR Football.

It was reported on 11 November that Spurs, Manchester United and Chelsea have all held talks with a view to signing the Bayer Leverkusen centre-back for free in 2025.

Tah, who is open to a Premier League move, helped lead Leverkusen to an unbeaten Bundesliga title last season, and his ability to sign a pre-contract in January has alerted the Lilywhites.

Aston Villa and Newcastle are two other English clubs keen on signing the 28-year-old, but Ange Postecoglou’s side are hoping their early approach for the defender will play to their advantage.

Jonathan Tah transfer can transform Tottenham defence

Postecoglou is by no means short of centre-backs in North London at present, but adding an experienced Bundesliga title winner to the mix would certainly take things up a few notches.

Micky van de Ven’s struggles with injury this season, coupled with Postecoglou’s high line and front-footed style of play, have left the Lilywhites woefully exposed at the back in recent weeks.

Radu Dragusin did his side no favours by all-but gifting Ipswich Town a winning goal on 10 November, while Cristian Romero has also come under fire for his erratic nature in an unbalanced Spurs defence.

With 26-year-old Romero seemingly in no position to be the senior head and lead from the back, signing Tah could prove to be a game-changer as Postecoglou’s side look to move up the Premier League table.

While Tah wouldn’t be pitching up in north London until next season regardless, forming a partnership with the electric Van de Ven would create a centre-back pairing any sides across Europe would envy.

In other Tottenham news, one Spurs outcast has made a decision on his contract in North London as the January window approaches.
