Kyogo to Man City: McAvennie stunned by unexpected new Celtic twist

Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi could ‘do a good job’ for Manchester City after the Premier League champions were linked with a move for the Japan international.

That’s the opinion of ex-Celtic striker Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Hoops’ star man making what would be a sensational move to the Premier League champions.

Following the £81.5 million departure of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid and youngster Oscar Bobb fracturing his leg in training, Man City are in the market for a new attacking option.

Football Insider revealed (August 21) that Divin Mubama is set to undergo his Man City medical after a compensation package was agreed with West Ham.

Man City reportedly interested in Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi

Even Celtic fans have been left stunned after Man City were linked with a shock move to sign Kyogo Furuhashi before the transfer deadline on 30 August.

Kyogo has been impressive since joining the Scottish champions from Japanese club Vissel Kobe back in 2021 having scored 74 goals in 137 appearances.

“It’s not going to happen, is it? I mean let’s be honest”, McAvennie told Football Insider.

“(Julian) Alvarez left because he couldn’t get a game, there is a big bloke there called (Erling) Haaland that’s the number one, maybe Kyogo could jump in his pocket.

“He’s a wonderful talent Kyogo, could he do a good job at Man City? Of course he could.

“With his runs, they will find him but would he really go and sit on the bench for Haaland. I don’t know, I’d want to play all the time and I think Kyogo has the same frame of mind as I do.

“As a striker or as a football player, you should want to play every game. Rotation means your dropped, that’s what I’d take it as.

“There are some players that never get rotated, I’d want to be one of those players.

“I’m honestly not sure if this is some way to get Celtic to spend more money on another striker, I don’t know.”
