Lilywhite Rose predicts Tottenham to announce 'world-class' player news within days

John Wenham has suggested Tottenham could announce Son Heung-min’s contract extension during the club’s pre-season visit to South Korea.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes it is a “no-brainer” for the 32-year-old’s stay in North London to be extended.

As per Ben Jacobs via X (16 July), Tottenham will trigger a one-year contract extension in Son’s contract which will keep him with the club until 2026.

Spurs play their first game in South Korea against Team K League on 31 July before playing Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich on 3 August.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has speculated when the announcement might arrive.

“Spurs are travelling to South Korea next week,” Wenham said.

“I mean, what better time for the club to announce Son’s contract extension than while they’re in South Korea?

“Perhaps that is what they’re planning, that would be sensible. They need to announce it at some point before 1 January. Son is now into the final year of his contract, so from that point onward he would be able to enter negotiations with other clubs.

“I suspect it is a no-brainer for Spurs to extend his contract. He is a world-class player and the club captain.”

Tottenham to make Son Heung-min contract announcement in South Korea?

Son’s popularity in South Korea is sky-high.

The forward will no doubt be excited to return to his home country during the club’s pre-season tour of Asia, and supporters will be just as excited to welcome him back.

Announcing his contract extension while the club is in South Korea could therefore be a smart idea.

Son was the club’s top scorer last season and has shown no signs of slowing down.

As a result, once this extension is announced, the club could perhaps consider extending his time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium beyond the next two years.
