Tottenham ready documents for new Bryan Gil release clause – ‘Here We Go’

Tottenham are readying documents to include a new release clause in Bryan Gil’s contract extension, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian transfer specialist reported [27 July] that the 23-year-old’s new contract will include a £12.6million release clause before being loaned out to Girona on Monday 29 July.

With Romano using his famous “here we go” tagline, the winger is set to return to Spain after being loaned out to Sevilla and Valencia during the last three seasons.

Gil has certainly failed to make the desired impact at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since arriving from Sevilla in the summer of 2021 as a 20-year-old.

He has only made 43 first-team appearances in that time, having been loaned out to Valencia and Sevilla in six-month spells in an attempt to provide him with more game time.

Many fans assumed this could be the player’s final summer with Spurs, with a permanent move expected to be struck, but the club clearly see something in the player worth keeping him for.

Gil does have four international caps for Spain and has shown bursts of quality in front of the Spurs fans, but with Timo Werner, Son Heung-Min and Manor Solomon occupying the left flank, there is little room left for him.

The Sevilla loan spell looks to have been the best for his development so far, having notched two goals and two assists in 17 La Liga appearances during the 2022/23 campaign.

However, he will now try out a loan with Girona, who were extremely impressive last season, pushing Real Madrid and Barcelona for the league title right until the end.

Spurs will be hoping that Gil experiences his best season yet, with the hope of either breaking into Ange Postecoglou’s team in the future or a team deciding to trigger his new release clause.
