Simon Donnelly has stated that Celtic will not be bothered by what’s going on with Rangers ahead of their game against RB Leipzig on Tuesday.
The Hoops take on the Bundesliga outfit in the Champions League on 5 November and the BBC pundit was asked if Gers’ domestic struggles will play on their minds.
He brushed aside those suggestions and insisted that the Parkhead outfit have to focus on their own games to get the job done.
Donnelly told the Daily Record: “There will never be any chance of that (focusing on Rangers’ struggles). Celtic will just focus on themselves. What happens outwith is immaterial, they have to focus on their own game. They’ve done that recently.
“The games are coming thick and fast at home and in the Champions League. Celtic won’t let up. They can’t take that chance of not focusing on each game. And I think the players will be welcoming the new challenge of Aberdeen in the league. Celtic always go out to win every game and I don’t think whether it’s Brendan or whoever is at the helm that they do that any differently.”
Rangers have got to reduce the gulf between themselves and Celtic on and off the pitch
For Gers, it is imperative for them to keep tabs on the Hoops and try to get back into the Champions League and the summit of Scottish football.
Given the historical and fierce rivalry, Rangers cannot afford to merely observe from the sidelines.
The increasing gap in performance and results between the two Glasgow giants isn’t just about league standings but about cultural and historical pride.
Gers must actively analyse Celtic’s approach and strive to be better than them.
This isn’t just about catching up but about restoring balance in one of the game’s most storied rivalries, which necessitates a proactive approach.
Everything at Ibrox appears to be haphazard right now and there are so many key positions still unfilled at the club.
Hopefully, there are some changes in the coming weeks ahead of the January transfer window otherwise it’s another season that can be written off.
In other Rangers news, an Ibrox-linked manager who’s admired by Pep Guardiola is in the frame for the job.
