John Wenham was delighted to see on-loan Tottenham gem Jamie Donley back on the pitch for Leyton Orient.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose claims the 19-year-old was “unlucky” to see what would have been his first senior goal ruled out for offside.
Donley’s disallowed goal came in Leyton Orient’s 3-1 Football League Trophy victory over MK Dons at Stadium MK on Tuesday (12 November), a match which the 19-year-old started.
And, despite the disallowed goal, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – still believes Donley’s confidence was handed a big boost.
“Donley needed that,” Wenham said.
“He was unlucky that his goal didn’t stand. I looked at the offside, and it was pretty close, so it was a shame that was ruled out.
“That goal would have been huge for his confidence. However, I was still very happy to see him get some minutes under his belt.”
Tottenham gem Jamie Donley back in the starting lineup for Leyton Orient
After his recent struggles at Leyton Orient, Donley is slowly beginning to turn things around.
He was handed a start and grabbed an assist as the club drew 2-2 with Borehamwood, before advancing to the second round of the FA Cup after a 5-3 penalty shoot-out victory at Meadow Park (3 November).
And it seems as though his display was acknowledged with the Spurs gem handed another start against MK Dons.
Therefore, Donley will hope to keep his head down and continue working hard, and eventually work his way back into the starting lineup consistently for Leyton Orient, which would give him a chance to show Ange Postecoglou what he can do.
While he seems to be on the outskirts of the team at the moment, fellow Spurs loanee Josh Keeley is proof that things can turn around for Donley at Leyton Orient after what has happened to the goalkeeper.
In other Tottenham news, the club are interested in signing a £50million-rated Premier League defender.
