John Wenham has described 15-year-old Tottenham defender Junai Byfield as “unbelievable.”
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose previously compared the young centre-back to legendary Tottenham defender Ledley King.
Byfield trained with Ange Postecoglou’s first team at Hotspur Way on Saturday (via Lilywhite Rose, 16 November).
And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks the schoolboy player has all the attributes to make it to the very top.
“I think Byfield is right up there in terms of his ceiling,” Wenham said.
“He is absolutely unbelievable. In his most recent outing, he scored a really good goal, which is no surprise as he used to be a striker when he first started playing, so it isn’t unusual that he still has that finishing ability.
“However, his all-round game is just immense, he has got every attribute going which is really exciting.”
Junai Byfield to make an impression on Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham?
Spurs supporters are bound to be excited by the amount of young talent emerging from Hotspur Way at the moment.
As well as Byfield, the club also have Lucá Williams-Barnett making waves at Under-18 level, with the 16-year-old recently sending Postecoglou a message.
However, it is particularly impressive that Byfield was allowed to train with Spurs’ first team. Williams-Barnett is a forward player who keeps finding the back of the net, and while that is very impressive, it is also an easier way to get yourself noticed.
Defenders often see their work go unnoticed. Therefore, the fact that the Spurs coaching staff and Postecoglou have taken notice of Byfield demonstrates just how impressive the youngster has been.
While a first-team debut is likely still some way off, it is exciting for Spurs to have a 15-year-old who is already on the first-team radar.
In other Tottenham news, the club’s stance on a transfer exit for James Maddison in January has emerged.
