John Wenham is delighted that Tottenham are planning to extend Ben Davies’ contract with the club by another year.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes the Welshman, who is currently sidelined with an injury which could keep him out until January, is a reliable part of Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

As reported by The Athletic [27 November], Tottenham plan to exercise the one-year contract extension option in Davies’ deal, with the 31-year-old currently out of contract at the end of the season.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes there are many reasons as to why this is the right thing to do.

“I’m delighted with that decision,” Wenham said.

“Davies is perfectly reliable whenever he plays for us, he rarely lets the team down. In addition, he’s on relatively low money for a top-six Premier League footballer.

“He can play both as a left-back and centre-back and you never hear any bad stories about him. He doesn’t kick up a fuss when he doesn’t play, he is well-liked, trains well and is a homegrown player. No reason why his deal shouldn’t be extended.”

Ben Davies to remain with Tottenham for another year?

While nothing has been made official as of yet, it looks as though Davies’ stay in North London is set to be extended to 12 years.

After previous speculation that the Welshman could move on in June, it seems as though Tottenham have had a change of heart.

While Davies isn’t necessarily the first name on the team sheet in North London, he is still an important player who has stepped up for Ange Postecoglou on multiple occasions when first-team regulars have been sidelined due to injury.

Therefore, keeping him around isn’t a bad idea at all, with his influence in the dressing room also likely just as important as his influence on the pitch.

In other Tottenham news, Daniel Levy dodged a bullet after a recent transfer rejection.
