Liverpool told to spend £100m to sign ‘incredible’ player instead of Anthony Gordon

Liverpool must have some serious cash burning a hole in their pocket at the moment.

Indeed, the Reds are yet to touch their summer transfer budget, and after Liverpool bid £111m for Moises Caicedo, we know that there is cash on hand to be spent.

Anthony Gordon is the player who has been most strongly linked with Liverpool this summer, but according to Don Hutchison, speaking on ESPN, Liverpool should look to make a different big-money signing.

Indeed, Hutchison says that Liverpool would be much better off spending £100m to sign Victor Osimhen rather than going after Gordon.

Liverpool should sign Victor Osimhen

Hutchison told the Reds to sign the ‘incredible’ striker instead of Gordon.

“You would be better off putting £100 million towards Osimhen. £50 million for Gordon doesn’t really because of the players that Liverpool have got,” Hutchison said.

“They have got enough cover. They have got a lot of players in wide areas, but what they are lacking, as we saw towards the end of the season, Darwin Nunez was inconsistent.

“If you are going to spend that little bit more and try and get the number one spot, push the boat out a little bit if you sell Gomez for £30, £40 million, you can make the difference up.”

Liverpool need Osimhen more

A move for Osimhen would make tons more sense than a move for Gordon for Liverpool.

The Reds have so many quality wingers with the likes of Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah in the squad, but it’s through the middle where they have struggled lately.

Darwin Nunez has a lot of excellent attributes, but as Hutchison says, he’s seriously inconsistent and his goalscoring numbers aren’t all that.

Meanwhile, Osimhen has shown in Italy that he’s lethal in front of goal, and he could perhaps take the Reds to the next level in an attacking sense.

Hutchison may be onto something with his suggestion here.
