Lucas Bergvall admits he was disappointed after Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou subbed him off early in the team’s Europa League win against Qarabag.
The 18-year-old was handed his second Spurs start against Qarabag at home on 26 September.
However, he was replaced by Destiny Udogie in the 12 minute of the game after Radu Dragusin was sent off.
Although the decision paid off as Tottenham went on to win 3-0, Bergvall was upset to have his chance to shine taken away.
“Of course, you are disappointed, but you should be”, Bergvall was quoted as saying by fotbolldirekt on Tuesday (8 October)
“It had to be let go, I completely understood the decision.
“It was just a matter of letting go and moving on.”
Lucas Bergvall is awaiting Premier League start for Tottenham
Postecoglou made it up to Bergvall by handing him another start against Ferencvaros in the Europa League on 3 October.
The teenager grabbed his chance by providing the assist for Pape Matar Sarr’s goal and helping the team claim a 2-1 win.
As per Sofascore, the Swede completed 27 of his 30 passes with 90% accuracy and played two key passes during his 65 minutes on the pitch.
Bergvall’s only start for Tottenham so far came in their 2-1 win against Coventry City in the EFL Cup last month.
The midfielder, meanwhile, has been restricted to just five substitute appearances in the Premier League.
His last appearance came in Spurs’ 3-0 victory over Manchester United, but failed to impress despite the side being already on top.
Bergvall’s decision to take a shot instead of passing the ball to a free Mikey Moore seemingly left Postecoglou raging.
The youngster faces competition from the likes of Sarr, Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur and needs to improve significantly to stake a claim in the starting lineup.
In other Tottenham news, Guglielmo Vicario has attracted Champions League interest and Paul Robinson believes a certain fee could tempt Spurs.
