'Unacceptable' - Broadcaster tears Tottenham to shreds after 'Inexplicable' turn of events

Ian Darke says while the capitulation at Brighton for Tottenham on Sunday was “inexplicable”, their result at Leicester City in their opening fixture was even more baffling.

Spurs are left to rue the errors of their ways over the international break after a shocking second-half collapse to hand the Seagulls all three points at the Amex Stadium.

Ange Postecoglou’s side looked in cruise control before the break, but Darke notes that the Leicester draw was even more “extraordinary” in terms of how the side were unable to win such a dominant encounter.

“Whether it was complacency, I don’t know, but it’s unacceptable and inexplicable and surely they’re professional enough to know you have to close the show,” began TNT Sports broadcaster Darke, exclusively speaking to Tottenham News.

“It seems to be part of Tottenham’s DNA that stuff like that happens to them. I think back to the Leicester game that was perhaps even more extraordinary than Sunday.

“Spurs were that good, I’m not exaggerating, that they should have been 6-0 up at half-time. And to end up drawing 1-1? It was amazing how they didn’t win that game.”

Tottenham dropping seemingly wrapped-up points

There is certainly rarely a dull day watching Tottenham – their brazen style of play under Ange Postecoglou has received everything from plaudits to scathing criticisms, and that just about sums up Spurs’ performances.

The Lilywhites can blow teams away. Everton, Manchester United, the evidence is there. But then days like Sunday happen; nights like Leicester happen.

For the six points Spurs gained from sweeping aside the Toffees on home turf and dismantling a wretched United side at Old Trafford, they themselves handed straight back five of those points by snatching frustration from the jaws of victory.

And frustration is putting it incredibly mildly by Sunday’s standards. Postecoglou himself described it as the worst result since he arrived in England [BBC Sport, 6 October], which begs the question of whether it can get worse.

Four of Spurs’ next five matches in all competitions come at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and the club must bank on that home advantage to set the ball rolling again.
