Manchester United’s Luke Shaw is ‘absolutely devastated’ after picking up a new injury setback which will rule him out of the clash against Arsenal.

United travel to the Emirates on Wednesday night in their next Premier League match to take on Mikel Arteta’s men in a huge showdown.

The Red Devils were hoping to have their No.1 left-back available after he managed 34 minutes in United’s thumping 4-0 win over Everton on Sunday.

But Shaw, who has barely featured this term having suffered a calf injury just days before the Premier League’s opening day, has now been ruled out yet again and has posted an emotional statement about his setback.

‘It’s hurting a lot having to write this as I really thought I had got through my recent struggles and was on a positive path going forwards, but unfortunately I’ve had a small setback,’ Shaw said.

‘I’ve been through a lot and had a lot of ups and downs but this has definitely been my toughest period.

‘I’m absolutely devastated and it’s extremely tough to come to terms with reality at this moment in time.

‘I understand there is gunna be people frustrated, angry, disappointed and I understand all that. There is no one feeling that more than me at this moment in time.

‘But what I can promise is I will do everything I can to come back better soon to help this club achieve its ambitions this season.

‘Thank you to everyone for the support. It really doesn’t go unnoticed and I really do appreciate it.’

Shaw made his return from injury against Ipswich Town off the bench in Ruben Amorim’s first game as the club’s new manager.

He then featured in the Europa League win over Bodo/Glimt before playing in United’s most recent match against Everton on Sunday.

He was expected to start Wednesday’s clash against Arsenal before news emerged of his fresh injury setback.
