Man City want a fee in excess of £40million for Julian Alvarez before the window shuts, sources have told Football Insider.
The club will be willing to let the Argentina forward, 24, leave this summer if they can secure the minimum price tag they have set.
Pep Guardiola has publicly admitted that the World Cup winner could depart the Etihad before the 31st August deadline.
Alvarez has claimed he will decide his future at the club after the Olympic Games, where he represents Argentina.
It is believed the situation has arisen due to a personal issue, and Alvarez’s preference is to quit the Premier League champions.
The striker is under contract at Man City until 2028, which puts the club in a strong negotiating position.
Chelsea, PSG, and Atletico Madrid are believed to be among the clubs interested in signing him as Europe’s elite monitor the situation.
Man City will allow Julian Alvarez to chase first-team football
Alvarez has made 103 appearances for Man City in all competitions, scoring 36 goals and providing 18 assists.
Even though he has played a significant role in City’s recent success, he hasn’t managed to become the first-choice striker.
Alvarez has been providing competition for Erling Haaland, often leading to him being used in other positions or as a substitute.
Moving on from the defending Premier League champions could allow Alvarez to become the first-choice striker elsewhere.
Alvarez might not be the only player leaving the club before the window shuts, as Kalvin Phillips is expected to move on.
