Man City face repeat Cole Palmer pain after new transfer update

Man City may not have too many regrets about what they have done in the past few seasons thanks to their trophy haul but one negative stands out and might now be at risk of a repeat.

The decision to sell Cole Palmer to Chelsea back in the summer of 2023 could well be one they do look back on and feel they could have done things differently.

Having made just a handful of appearances in each of the previous four seasons after stepping up to senior level at The Etihad the attacker was allowed to depart for London.

Since then Palmer has thrived for Chelsea, scoring 32 goals and providing 20 assists in 58 appearances in all competitions, becoming arguably their most important player.

His form also saw him win a raft of individual awards last season, meaning Man City may feel he is a major asset they have missed out on.

And it could now be argued that the Premier League champions are at risk of a repeat of that situation again in the New Year, judging by the latest transfer update.

West Ham and Fulham eye James McAtee at Man City

According to The Guardian, Premier League sides West Ham and Fulham are both interested in James McAtee ahead of the January transfer window.

Having spent the last two seasons on loan with Sheffield United, the 22-year-old has found opportunities hard to come by since returning to Man City in the summer, having made just one substitute appearance in the Premier League for Pep Guardiola’s side during the current campaign.

As a result, he is yet to really get the chance to show what he can do at this level for the defending top-flight champions.

That is a similar story to Palmer when he departed, having seemingly not played as much as he would have wanted to for Man City.

McAtee though, did show a huge amount of potential during his time with the Blades. He made a major contribution as they won promotion from the Championship in the 2022/23 season.

Last season then also saw him catch the eye in what was a Sheffield United side that badly struggled in the Premier League.

He could therefore certainly make an impact in the Premier League if he was given the opportunity with a stronger team around him under Guardiola.

But if Man City do cash in on his approximately £20million value they will miss out on the chance to take advantage of his talent, just as they ultimately did with Palmer.

Given their similar age and playing position there are sure to be plenty of comparisons between the two, especially if McAtee is sold and thrives in the same way Palmer has at Stamford Bridge.

Considering the potential stakes City have plenty to thin about with their next upcoming star, in terms of whether they want to give him a shot themselves or risk him going onto big things elsewhere.
