Manchester United star’s agent responds to transfer links to former club
The transfer window is still open in the Netherlands, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
Christian Eriksen’s agent has reacted to the rumours linking him with leaving Manchester United this month.
While the transfer window has slammed shut in the UK, it remains open in a number countries including Belgium, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
Monday is also deadline day in the Netherlands and as such reports linking Eriksen to his former club Ajax persist.
It was expected that the midfielder would leave Old Trafford over the summer having fallen down Erik ten Hag’s pecking order, making just 14 starts in all competitions last season.
It is said that Real Betis asked for Eriksen, as well as Antony, on loan on deadline day last Friday but Ten Hag blocked their exits.
Will Christian Eriksen stay at Manchester United?
His agent Martin Schoots has now confirmed that the Denmark international will remain a Red Devil for the foreseeable future with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
‘There has already been interest from various sides for Christian, but he will stay with United,’ Schoots told Dutch outlet Voetbal International.
‘There were options in the Arab world, Turkey and the MLS, but those were ruled out in advance because Chris and his family want to stay in Western Europe.
‘In addition, he is confident that he will get enough playing minutes. Manchester United will play every three days in the coming months, so Eriksen will still be important for United.
‘There has been informal contact with Anderlecht but never more than that. Ajax made inquiries in January, but that was too early at the time and the question was not asked this summer. So that was not an issue.
‘There was another Dutch club that contacted us, but that was not an option. It is difficult when you play for one of the three biggest clubs in the world to go to a much smaller competition, especially without Champions League football.
‘We can put an end to those speculations. At least until the end of the calendar year, then they will flare up again.’
Eriksen made his first appearance of the season on Sunday, coming on for the last four minutes of United’s humiliating 3-0 loss to Liverpool.
The 32-year-old will be hoping for a bit more game time after the international break when Ten Hag’s team travel to Southampton on September 14.
