Manchester Utd eye swap deal for Branthwaite alternative as Everton talks stall - report

Manchester United are eyeing a swap deal with Crystal Palace for Marc Guehi after talks with Everton for Jarrad Branthwaite stalled, according to TEAMtalk.

Writing on their website (17 June), the news outlet report that the Toffees are holding out for at least £70million for the 21-year-old defender after rejecting United’s opening bid worth £43million including add-ons.

But with the Red Devils not interested in going as high as £70million, they have now opened talks with Palace for England international Guehi and are reportedly willing to offer defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka as a makeweight in the deal to avoid paying the £50million-plus asking price.

Everton get Jarrad Branthwaite boost as Manchester United stumble

It seems as though Manchester United were confident that they would be able to walk into Goodison Park and pluck Branthwaite out of the club with ease because of the club’s financial problems.

But Everton are sticking to their guns for their top asset, with Branthwaite having signed a new contract earlier this season and firmly in Sean Dyche’s plans in the team.

With Amadou Onana also highly coveted by teams and Dominic Calvert-Lewin also targeted, the club aren’t under so much pressure to sell Branthwaite unless their asking price is met.

The Toffees are adamant they don’t need to make any sales before June 30th to help with their issues against potential PSR breaches again too, which will only add to Man United’s frustrations.

It can only be a good thing for Everton, unless they’re bluffing and really do need the cash, but if United walk away that’s one less issue to worry about when it comes to Branthwaite’s future.

In other Everton news, Dan Friedkin could be set to sack Sean Dyche as manager once he completes his takeover of the club.
