Marc Cucurella sends message to Chelsea fans after surprise twist

Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has taken to social media to celebrate a “good win” after scoring and then being sent off in their 2-1 Premier League win over Brentford on Sunday (December 15).

The 26-year-old scored the opener just before half-time with a diving header from a brilliant cross by Noni Madueke before Nicolas Jackson doubled Chelsea’s lead in the closing stages.

Bryan Mbeumo made it tense in added time, expertly slotting past Robert Sanchez, but it was too little too late, and the home side held on to close the gap on league leaders Liverpool to just two points.

Cucurella was then shown a second yellow card after referee Peter Bankes blew the final whistle for his role in a post-match scuffle between the two sets of players.

The left-back will now miss Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Sean Dyche’s Everton on Sunday (December 22) due to suspension.

Enzo Maresca’s side have somewhat of a discipline problem, being awarded the most yellow cards in the Premier League with 50 so far this season, although Cucurella’s red marks Chelsea’s first of the season.

The Spaniard is Maresca’s undisputed preferred choice at left-back, starting 15 of his 17 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal, and providing one assist in 1359 minutes of action.

Cucurella took to Instagram after the victory over Brentford, saying: “Good win at home to finish off the week! We go again.”
