Ally McCoist is hoping that the Tottenham who beat Manchester City isn’t the team that turns up against Rangers in their Europa League tie at Ibrox on 12 December.
The Gers’ last game in the Europa League ended 4-1 as they demolished Nice and moved up to eighth in the table, level on points but just ahead of Spurs.
Speaking live on talkSPORT (2 December, 08:57am), McCoist shared his thoughts on the Gers’ chances against Tottenham.
“Their [Tottenham] next [Europa League] game is up at Ibrox against Rangers,” he said.
“And I’m objectively sitting with everything crossed that it’s the Spurs that played against Fulham, played against Leicester rather than the one against Manchester City.
“Because if that team turns up, they’re more than a match for absolutely anyone.”
Tottenham will be the toughest challenge for Rangers yet
It’s no secret that Rangers have performed well below par in the Scottish Premiership this season, but for some reason, in other competitions such as the Europa League and the Scottish League Cup, they’ve been one of the best.
While the Gers may have lost to Lyon earlier in their Europa League campaign, they have since more than picked themselves up and are even looking likely to bypass the initial knockout rounds, as long as their form continues.
Many fans will believe that facing Celtic will be one of, if not the hardest games of their season but once Ange Postecoglou makes his return to Ibrox, it’ll be a whole new kettle of fish.
The Premier League side will no doubt bring a near-full-strength side to face Philippe Clement’s men and they will need to be at their very best to get anything from the game.
Only time will tell whether the Gers can carry on their Europa League form, but if not, here’s hoping they don’t leave the clash too red-faced otherwise it could be the end of Clement’s Ibrox stint.
In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton reacted to a question that Kris Boyd asked him at half-time of the Gers’ clash against St Johnstone on Sunday.
