Stephen McGowan has mooted the possibility of Rangers actually playing their home games in August at a smaller-capacity Ibrox.

The Scottish Daily Mail journalist has reported in its print edition [5 July, page 120] that playing with just three stands at Ibrox is now “appealing”.

Should this happen, the 8,000 supporters left without a way into their seats would be due compensation.

He wrote: “Playing at Ibrox with three open stands is appealing, but problematic.

“The 8,000 supporters displaced from their seats and locked out of games would be due compensation in some shape or form. It would do nothing to mend the already strained relationships between the club and supporters.

“There are no good solutions to a conundrum which gives manager Clement another issue to deal with.”

Why Rangers might be starting their season at Ibrox

Last month it was reported that the Gers wouldn’t be starting their season at their home ground due to a delay in the work on the Copland Road stand.

The situation is so dire that the project manager for the work was fired due to the debacle [Scottish Sun, 20 June].

Hampden Park and Murrayfield [Scottish Sun, 20 June] have been touted as two places where Philippe Clement’s men could play their opening games of the season.

The former of the two has recently been deemed the most likely, however, as American singer Pink held a concert there just recently, the ground isn’t in the best of shapes.

This has once again thrown where the Gers will likely start their season in the air and has raised question marks for both the club and fans.

A full Ibrox is an atmosphere that can’t be replicated anywhere else in the world. However, a three-quarters full stadium could be a better shout than a full Murrayfield or Hampden Park.

In other Rangers news, Lawrence Shankland would jump at a chance to join the Gers this summer.
