Micah Richards shares new Everton relegation verdict after Crystal Palace win

Micah Richards believes Everton “will be fine” in the Premier League relegation battle this season after their 2-1 win against Crystal Palace.

Dwight McNeil emerged as the hero at Goodison Park on Saturday [28 September] as his brace secured the Toffees their first three points in the Premier League this season.

Speaking on The Rest is Football [30 September, 43:03], co-host Richards shared his verdict on whether another relegation battle awaits Everton after the all-important win.

He said: “I wasn’t worried for Everton because they know they’ve got the grit, determination [that] comes from Sean Dyche. If you actually watch the games this season, they’ve played very well.

“I was at their game against Brighton, the first half they should have been two or three up. We had the Bournemouth game where they was 2-0 up and there was late goals and they’re finding a way to score.

“They’ve got Branthwaite back now who’s been out, I think they will be fine.”

Everton should comfortably survive this season

The Blues have flirted with relegation for far too long, this year must be the year the side puts down a statement of intent in the Premier League and end the cycle at Goodison Park.

It is no coincidence Everton recorded their first win of the season in the same match Jarrad Branthwaite returned to the side, it has been a frustrating wait for all involved with the club having such a talented defender on the sidelines as the side shipped in goals left right and centre.

There is a foundation for Sean Dyche to build on, on paper the side should be nowhere near the relegation spots and are light and day ahead of the newly-promoted sides and even more surprisingly Wolves, who have replaced the Toffees at the foot of the table.

The Friedkin Group are set to ring in the changes upon the completion of the prospective takeover, a new era at Everton will begin and it is up to the players and the manager to prove they are worthy of representing the club at Bramley-Moore Dock next season.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Iliman Ndiaye, and McNeil have been among the goals this season, Dyche must build the side around the attacking trio. It is really that simple.

With Branthwaite back and the defence close to full strength, there is plenty of quality within the side to orchestrate a quick ascent of the Premier League table, Everton must ensure this victory is not a case of one step forward two steps back.
