Moshiri set for £25m payday after recent Everton takeover announcement- report

Farhad Moshiri will pocket an initial fee in the region of £25million having agreed to sell his stake in Everton to the Friedkin Group, according to The Telegraph.

The outlet reported on its website on Friday (27 September) that the Toffees owner could earn more money in the future depending on how successful they are under their new American owners on Merseyside.

Although it is unclear just how much Moshiri invested at Goodison Park, he is understood to have spent hundreds of millions of pounds during his time in charge of the Toffees.

Reports had suggested that the Friedkin Group were expected to pay Moshiri less than £50million for his 94.1 per cent stake in the Blues [Bloomberg, 25 September], but that figure appears to be a lot smaller than originally expected.

How much did the Friedkin Group pay for an Everton takeover?

While he is far from a popular figure at Goodison Park and for good reason, it feels as though Moshiri may have finally done something with the interests of Everton at heart by accepting such a low offer for his stake.

Of course, with the debt the club owed to various different companies, Moshiri was never going to be able to command a fee that could see him earn back the hundreds of millions of pounds that he lost.

Although the Toffees owner will leave behind one gem from his tenure in the Bramley-Moore Stadium, the majority of Everton supporters will be left with a sense of relief once he finally walks away from Goodison Park.

The Blues remain an attractive football club to own, in spite of their footballing and financial challenges over the last couple of seasons and that has ensured that the Friedkins are even at all interested in paying Moshiri a fee whatsoever.

Hopefully, the Toffees’ current owner will just be grateful to receive a fee for his stake so that he can finally ride off into the sunset without having to worry about running a football club.
