Motherwell manager speaks out as injury update shared pre-Rangers

Rangers-linked Lennon Miller is one of up to eight players who could miss out for Motherwell against Philippe Clement’s side this weekend, according to Football Scotland.

The midfielder is a doubt for Saturday’s (10 August) clash at Hampden Park with a knock, with Shane Blaney, Ross Callachan, Filip Stuparevic, Sam Nicholson, Harry Paton, Callum Slattery and John Koutroumbis all sidelined according to the online publication

Motherwell boss Stuart Kettle said in quotes reported by the Football Scotland article that he is struggling to prepare his team for the game against Rangers.

“Some of the injuries are from impacts, completely unavoidable, and we’re trying to limit time on the pitch for some players to make sure that they’re fit and they’re able to play in games on a Saturday,” he said.

“It gets to the point almost for me just now where we can’t really train much less than what we are to prepare our players for playing a game of football on a Saturday. So it’s been a really difficult juggling act.”

Rangers must take advantage of Motherwell injuries

Saturday represents the biggest opportunity of Rangers’ fledgling campaign yet.

Philippe Clement is still looking for a first victory of the season, as the stalemate at Hearts last weekend was followed up by the midweek 1-1 draw in Poland against Dynamo Kyiv as Cyriel Dessers hit a last-gasp leveller in the Champions League third-round qualifier.

To get off to a flyer in unideal circumstances at Hampden is also important, with Celtic over in the green corner already having enjoyed a comfortable win on the opening weekend.

Whilst easier contests on paper than last week’s draw at Tynecastle will have been, a return to Ibrox is what Clement, his team and the fans will have one eye on this whole time, and to make Hampden a temporary fortress is the only option at present.

Gers will be considerable favourites as ever, but must not slip up as every point is vital – even at this stage.
