National media raves about 'Very Strong' Everton int'l ace in 7/10 showing

Everton ace Amadou Onana was in action as Belgium bowed out of Euro 2024 after their 1-0 loss to France on Monday (1 July).

The Red Devils only managed two shots on target as they crashed out of the tournament in Germany at the last-16 phase.

Of all the Belgium players on the pitch, Toffees midfielder Onana was among those who were lauded by Belgian media with following his “very strong” performance.

Het Nieuwsblad [2 July, page 3] rated the midfielder a 7/10 and said of his performance: “Was very strong defensively. It’s impossible to imagine the Red Devils without him. Also often thought ahead in possession.”

What’s next for Everton ace Amadou Onana now his Euro 2024 run is over?

Much like a lot of the Toffees’ star players, Onana is a player who has been consistently linked with a move away from Merseyside following his stellar performances last season.

Although many expected Everton to have to sell some of their strongest assets in order to meet PSR guidelines this summer, thanks to the sale of youngster Lewis Dobbin to Aston Villa [Fabrizio Romano, 21 June] and Ben Godfrey joining Atalanta, thus far their star names are still at the club.

However, this doesn’t rule out any future moves that could be made for Onana as there are still plenty of clubs lurking for his transfer.

Everton ace Amadou Onana
Amadou Onana is one of Everton’s highest-rated players, but the club could sell him this summer.

Barcelona sporting director, Deco, has deemed the Belgium international his “favourite” choice to fulfil the role of defensive midfielder [Sport, 1 July, Page 15] for the La Liga giants next term.

Although the Toffees would be reluctant to lose the 22-year-old this summer, should Hansi Flick come knocking, they might not be able to convince him to stay on Merseyside.

In other Everton news, Alan Myers has revealed that the Toffees will dip into the market this summer for a Ben Godfrey replacement.
